Q) When a Restaurant closes it doors for good. Without telling you about the closing April 23rd, 2023.While out having surgery. Was guarantee my job back when I return. Now I am Denied Benefits. Because Unemployment spoke to someone on May 14, 2023 at the restaurant. They said I am on Permanent PFML Act. Yet PFML said I have no claim. How can I return to a job, That is not there anymore. Can’t travel far no-income for 2 months. Because I can’t even use my print because all my account are closed.

A) I understand that you are in a difficult situation. Your employer closed the restaurant without telling you, and now you are denied unemployment benefits. You were also guaranteed your job back when you returned from surgery, but now that the restaurant is closed, you are not sure what to do.

Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Contact your employer and ask for clarification. Find out why you were denied unemployment benefits, and ask if there is anything you can do to appeal the decision. You may also want to ask your employer if they are willing to provide you with a letter stating that you were guaranteed your job back when you returned from surgery. This letter could be helpful in your appeal.
  2. File a claim with the Permanent PFML Act. If you were not eligible for unemployment benefits, you may be eligible for benefits under the Permanent PFML Act. This act provides partial wage replacement for employees who are unable to work due to a qualifying medical condition. You can file a claim online or by mail.
  3. Contact your state’s unemployment office. They may be able to provide you with additional assistance, such as job search assistance or financial assistance.
  4. Consider applying for other jobs. Even though your old job is no longer there, you may be able to find a similar job elsewhere. Start by updating your resume and searching online job boards. You can also reach out to your network of contacts to see if anyone knows of any open positions.

I know this is a lot to deal with, but I hope this information helps.
