New Mexico Unemployment Benefit Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits in New Mexico, you must meet the following requirements:

Earnings Requirements

You must have worked and earned enough wages in covered employment in New Mexico during your base period. The base period is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters.

You must have earned at least $2,400 in wages in your base period.

Your wages must have been earned from employers who are subject to the New Mexico Unemployment Insurance Law.

Work Search Requirements

You must be unemployed through no fault of your own. This means that you must have lost your job through no fault of your own, such as due to a layoff, plant closure, or lack of work.

You must be able to work full-time. This means that you must be able to work and be available to work 40 hours per week.

You must be actively seeking work. This means that you must be making efforts to find work, such as contacting employers, submitting resumes, and attending job fairs.

You must keep a record of your job search activities. This includes a list of employers you have contacted, the dates you contacted them, and the results of your contacts.

Additional Requirements

You must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.

You must be physically and mentally able to work.

You must be registered with the New Mexico Job Search System.

You must file a claim for UI benefits within 28 days of the date you became unemployed.
