i lost about $75,000 worth of antiquities in which I inherited due to lack of payment from my unemployment bennifits of about $20,000 that I never received during covid shutdown, whose liable for this? I’ve tried calling the office numerous times then an recently but they never awnser. This is rediculous!
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have a difficult time getting compensated for your antiques, as unemployment benefits are not typically considered to be a source of income for purposes of insurance claims. However, there are a few things you can try:
Contact your unemployment office again. Explain that you have not received your benefits and that this has caused you to lose a significant amount of money. See if they can expedite your claim or offer you any other assistance.
File a claim with your insurance company. Even if your unemployment benefits are not covered, your antiques may be covered by your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance. Be sure to file your claim as soon as possible, as most insurance policies have a time limit for filing claims.
Contact an attorney. If you are unable to get satisfaction from your unemployment office or insurance company, you may want to consider contacting an attorney. An attorney can help you understand your legal rights and options, and can represent you in court if necessary.
I know this is a difficult time, but please don’t give up. You may have a case, and there are people who can help you.
