I’ve missed out on months of unemployment benefits

Q) I was receiving unemployment when I was suddenly cut off. The web site said to call a number to “verify my identity”. WHen I called, no one answered. When I called another number – the general number, i left messages and no one called back. I called & emailed my elected officials and no one responded. I emailed local news and no one responded. I’m broke and can’t get anyone to help and I’m going broke!!! I’ve missed out on months of unemployment benefits and will lose out on new federal unemployment benefits. HELP!!!!

A) I understand that you’ve tried calling and emailing your elected officials and local news, but haven’t gotten a response. I would recommend continuing to try to reach out to them. You can also try contacting your local community organizations or churches. They may be able to help you get in touch with someone who can help you with your unemployment benefits.

Here are some other things you can try:

  • Check your online account. You can check the status of your claim and your payment history online.
  • Visit the unemployment office in person. If you can, try visiting the unemployment office in person. This is often the best way to get your issue resolved.
  • Hire an attorney. If you’ve been unsuccessful in getting your unemployment payments, you may want to consider hiring an attorney. An attorney can help you file a lawsuit against the unemployment office and get your payments.

Seeing that you have made multiple calls to your local unemployment office and have gotten no response you need to now visit a local office near you and speak with a counselor.
